Call for Help: Repairing the Runestone enclosure
Embark on a journey through time at Heavener Runestone Park, where the echoes of Viking history resonate in the heart of the United States. Today, we come to you with a crucial appeal; our cherished Runestone enclosure, a guardian of this profound legacy, stands weathered and frail. The roof, once a stalwart shield, now lies broken and exposed.
The Heavener Runestone is not just a mere relic; it is a tangible connection to an ancient chapter in American history, telling the tale of viking explorers who, against all odds, left their mark on these lands. To ensure this precious piece of heritage endures, we are launching a fundraising campaign with a modest goal of $15,000.
The urgency arises from the pressing need to repair the enclosure. Time has not been kind, and the current state leaves the Runestone vulnerable to the elements. We believe in the importance of preserving the physicality of history, allowing visitors to stand in awe before the very stone that whispers tales of the past.
Your donation is a cornerstone in this restoration effort. it not only mends the broken roof and reinforces the enclosure but also sustains the non-profit caretaker, Friends of Heavener Runestone. This dedicated group relies on your generosity, alongside the proceeds from the park’s gift shop, to maintain and protect this historical gem.
Picture a future where families, students, and history enthusiasts alike can continue to walk among the remnants of Viking exploration. Envision a revitalized Runestone, safeguarded for generations to come. Together, we can weave a narrative that transcends time, where each dollar donated becomes a testament to our commitment to preserving the extraordinary legacy of Heavener Runestone Park.
Join us in this noble endeavor. Your support not only repairs a structure but revitalizes the spirit of a historical landmark. Donate today and be a guardian of Viking history on American soil.
What People Are Saying
“Needs some upkeep of the Runestone building, the glass skylight is broken and the birds are making a mess all over the stone. But the park is neat!”

“Not super kept up, if nothing is done with the structure the rune stone is under, it will continue to wear away.
Free entrance is great, and views are good.”

“You can tell the state of Oklahoma doesn’t support this little spot anymore but I give credit/thanks to the volunteers who take care of this place. I understand thing get run down but I was impressed by no trash around. Really well kept up. Cool little rune to check out. I was here on New Year’s Eve. Staying in a little cabin just outside the entrance. For a big holiday like this, there is a good amount of interest here. Thanks volunteers.”
